Welcome to Mental Health Awareness Week

This year Mental Health Awareness Week is focusing on the theme of loneliness.

Loneliness is a strange creature in that you’d think you need to be physically alone for it to get you, but that’s not how it works. You can be surrounded by people, even close friends, and still feel lonely, especially if you are struggling with your mental health. You put on a front, you fit in, you seem like everything is fine, but behind the mask you feel isolated, alone and lonely because you feel that you cannot share your reality. But most of us have experienced these things in one way or another across our lifetimes, and if we reach out and share our feelings, either when we feel lonely ourselves or when we suspect that others might be feeling that way, then we might find that we start to feel a little less alone.

So, for the next 5 days we’ll be posting tips every day on our social feeds. We hope these will help you to navigate any bumps on the road to your own mental wellbeing, combat feelings of loneliness in your own life, spot signs of it in others and remind you that no matter how you are feeling… you are not alone!

Check in with us each day, try out our tips and take a little time to focus on your mental health. Feel free to share any of your own personal tips too, because the more we all communicate and share, the less alone we all feel.

Feelings and emotions vary depending on situations, circumstances and individuals but try to keep a lookout for these things:
  • Irritability
  • Low confidence
  • Loss of appetite or increased control over food
  • Tired and fatigued (a lot of the time)
  • Tearful and nervous
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Reserved from social situations

Look out for our posts on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, or pop back here later in the week to find the complete set and don't forget to be kind to yourself this week... because you're important.
